Healthy mullets or the handsome dead?
COVID-19 Restrictions – Australia – Haircuts
Surely, we can go a few days without a trim, a colour or cut…
Firstly, the idea of not 30-mins but sometimes an hour or two in close proximity. Then there is the question of equipment sterilisation (which would be uneconomical for a $15 hair-cut). …the blower spreading the virus…the sink, taps and cloths used.
The frequency and traffic of possibly 10-20 people per day in the same chair creates further concerns.
Finally, the health-risk of the hair-dresser and his/her exposure to such high volumes of possible carriers, day-in, day-out.
Whilst we try to normalise a distance of 1.5 – 2m even in casual and fleeting environments – we’ve allowed a nation-wide exemption for cosmetic reasons.
Do we really prefer looking good, to survival?
The inclusion of hairdressers on the list of services allowed to continue is perplexing to say the least.
